Amazon unveiled the newest incarnation of Kindle by introducing the Kindle Fire, The Kindle Touch (both wi-fi and 3G) and a new basic Kindle.  The Kindle Fire garnered the most attention as Amazon’s version of a tablet.

Kindle Fire

According to Amazon, the Kindle Fire is:

“…a new addition to the Kindle family that offers instant access to Amazon’s massive selection of digital content, Amazon’s revolutionary cloud-accelerated browser, free storage in the Amazon Cloud, Whispersync, 14.6 ounce design that’s easy to hold with one hand, brilliant color touchscreen, and a fast and powerful dual core processor — all for only $199.

Kindle Fire puts Amazon’s incredible selection of digital content at your fingertips – enjoy over 18 million movies, TV shows, songs, apps, games, books, and magazines in vibrant color.”

The Kindle Fire is currently available for pre-order right now for $199  for US Customers with expected shipping to start November 15.

The Kindle Touch (Wi-Fi and 3G)

Along with the announcement of the Kindle Fire, Amazon announced two new Kindle e-ink versions with touch screens. The Kindle Touch will come in a Wi-Fi version and a 3G version. Both at extremely good price points. The 3G version means that you can read download from anywhere, anytime with no need to look for or pay for a wi-fi hotspot. There is no contract or extra fees as Amazon pays for the connection.

The Kindle Touch is “… is a new addition to the Kindle family with an easy-to-use touch screen that makes it easier than ever to turn pages, search, shop, and take notes – still with all the benefits of the most advanced electronic ink display. Kindle Touch is also lighter, smaller, eliminates battery anxiety with extra-long battery life and holds thousands of books.”

The Newest Generation of Kindle

Along with the announcement of the Kindle Fire and the Kindle Touch, Amazon will be releasing the newest generation of Kindle. For those of you who just want to stick with an e-ink ereader similar to the current versions of Kindle, then consider this latest version.

According the Amazon, this version of Kindle “…is for readers who want the lightest, most compact Kindle at an incredible price. The latest generation Kindle features a new design that is 30 percent lighter at just 5.98 ounces, 18 percent smaller, and turns pages 10 percent faster. Kindle is now small and light enough to fit easily in your pocket and carry with you everywhere, yet it still features the same 6-inch, most advanced electronic ink display that reads like real paper, even in bright sunlight.”
